GPs are starting to direct patients to community resources in greater numbers because they recognise them as alternatives to conventional treatments and medicines, as well as providing cost savings for the NHS.
Whether your GP referred you, or whether you signed up to an activity yourself, you are taking control of your own health and wellbeing. What matters most is being able to take the first step.
Using social prescriptions to harness community resources it is possible to help people with obesity, diabetes and many other chronic conditions. Loneliness, anxiety and isolation are also conditions which benefit hugely from engagement with others.
